We met at Giraffe House in Stellenbosch on a warm afternoon as a maternity photographer in Cape Town, I jumped at the opportunity to do this shoot. The kind of afternoon that feels soft from the start, and the sunlight was already turning golden. A slight breeze moved through the grass. You could feel it was going to be special.
I’ve known this family for years. Now a baby is on the way. That kind of story is an honour to capture.
As a Cape Town maternity photographer, I’ve shot in many beautiful places. Beaches. Mountains. Forests. But there is something different about standing quietly while giraffes move around you.
They are calm. Gentle. Curious.
The mom-to-be looked radiant. Bare feet in the grass. Dress flowing in the wind. Her hands were resting on her belly. Dad was close behind her. The sunset showed off with soft oranges and warm pinks
That’s what I love most about maternity sessions. It’s not about perfect poses; it is all about connection. Anticipation. The quiet before life changes forever.
This session had all of it.
A magical sunset.
A gentle breeze.
A family I adore.
And giraffes, just being giraffes.
Stellenbosch gave us the perfect backdrop. But it was the people that made it unforgettable.
These are the moments that remind me why I do what I do.

If you’re planning a Maternity Photo Shoot in Cape Town, I’d love to hear what you have in mind. There’s no pressure or stiff posing — just a relaxed session that captures your family exactly as you are. We’ll focus on the little moments at home or outdoors, the laughter, the cuddles, the quiet connections, and all the love you share. Simple, meaningful, and full of heart.
